It was a week of power plays and half-naked Rick. Maggie tries to deal with her new captured Saviours and then chucks Gregory in the cage with them when he tries to defy her authority (again!). Ezekiel continues to lose faith in his ability to lead people, despite Carol’s best efforts to change his mind. Carl meets up with the chap from back at the gas station, and after the pair fight off some Walkers, Carl manages to recruit him to help protect Alexandria. Elsewhere, Tara and Daryl plot to work against Rick’s plans and want to drive a truck full of explosives into the Sanctuary. And surprise, surprise, it doesn’t quite go to plan and Rick ends up locked in a shipping container in his underwear by the end of the episode. You know, the folks that totally double-crossed him in the last fight against Negan. In one of the series’ most controversial moves, Rick decides to try and enlist help from Jadis and the Junkyard gang. He locks the now very ill Gabriel in a cell (that happens when you cover yourself in Walker guts), where Eugene discovers him. The workers at the Sanctuary begin to revolt, but are stopped before a riot ensues by the reappearance of Negan. They’ve figured out there’s a mole in their midst, with Negan’s lieutenant all growing very suspicious of one another. Instead, far more time is spent showcasing what’s been going down on the Saviours’ side of things. There’s lots of chat about redemption, past sins and forgiveness, but ultimately Gabriel and Negan manage to escape - despite being surrounded by Walkers - without any explanation as to how they survive. But, in true Walking Dead style, it resolves the whole matter in the slowest possible manner. There’s an awesome car chase that makes you wonder whether this is how The Walking Dead action should really be, but it’s all over far too fast. The two Saviours who manage to escape from the earlier shootout with Carol and co, eventually get caught by Rick and Daryl, who are on the hunt for Negan’s hidden stock of. They all managed to get back to the Kingdom safely, but Ezekiel is overcome with self-doubt and anguish. ![]() In a moment of utter sadness for the series, Ezekiel’s pet tiger Shiva appears and sacrifices herself to save the trio. The trio attempt to carry the wounded Ezekiel back to the Kingdom, but en route get surrounded by extra toxic Walkers. Oh and Jerry, who rushes in to save Ezekiel from death. ![]() As Ezekiel rises from the mountain of corpses just waiting to turn, it’s clear that he and Carol are the only survivors of the ambush. Carol and Ezekiel’s group, meanwhile, attack another Saviour compound, but get ambushed so you’re left wondering if literally everyone dies at the end of the episode. But it turns out it’s a busy day at the Hilltop, because next Maggie has Jesus knocking on her door with the group of Saviour captives - much to the irritation of Tara and Morgan. ![]() Gregory finally makes his way back to the Hilltop in Father Gabriel’s car, and after a long heated chat with Maggie, she eventually decides to let him back into the community, despite everything he’s already done. Understandably, Aaron’s quite upset, but he takes it upon himself to become the keeper of Morales’ kid. It’s not just Morales who kicks the bucket in this episode, as we actually lose a few along the way here, including Eric - Aaron’s partner - who was critically wounded in episode ,2 but decided to wait until now to wander off and become a Walker. The problem is, he’s got a baby, and now she’s another screaming kid Rick’s crew has in their midst. Despite the fact they’ve got some history, Daryl doesn’t think twice about taking down Morales, who’s still holding Rick at gunpoint.

Type the relevant information here and click OK when finished.Ĭlick on Project > Build DLL and Setup Package More importantly, we need to build an executable version of the new keyboard, so it can be installed on your computer (and other computers if you share the file or plan to switch PCs).įirst, click on Project > Properties to name your layout. Go to File > Save in order to save your new layout somewhere. Here’s how it looks now that I’ve finished filling out all the Spanish characters I need:Ĭlick OK when finished with the dead key setup. You can enter ‘[‘ in the base and composite columns so that double tapping the left bracket key will still output a left bracket. Our left bracket key can now be used to make a lot more characters, but we still may need to use the left bracket key itself from time to time. But after we finish saving this keyboard, you’ll be able to make those characters yourself! You can just google for custom characters that you need, and paste them into the composite column. The ‘U+006e’ and similar information is created automatically – just type your characters as normal and that other information will populate automatically. So the first row indicates that ‘[‘ followed by ‘n’ will create ‘ñ’. The dead key + base key forms the composite key. Right-click on the key and hit ‘Set as dead key.’Ī new window will open, where you can set your additional keys.Īs you can see in the screenshot above, I’ve begun to enter a few Spanish characters. In other words, the left bracket is my dead key. You can rearrange or reprogram these keys as you please, but if you’d like to add additional characters to the keyboard, you’ll have to use a ‘dead key.’ As I said earlier, I access Spanish characters by first pressing [ on my keyboard. The keyboard should look filled out now and we can begin to make our personalizations. If you’re using a regular American keyboard, select ‘US.’ You can load your current keyboard through File > Load Existing Keyboard…Ĭhoose your current keyboard layout in this menu. ![]() Rather than creating an entire layout from scratch, it’s a lot easier to just use our current keyboard layout and then customize it with our new specifications. You’ll be presented with a blank keyboard layout initially, totally customizable from the ground up: Once the installation is finished, you can open the program through the Start menu. Once you’ve downloaded it, run the setup file and go through the install prompts (all very self-explanatory). If that link stops working for some reason, we also have the program hosted at this link. Microsoft made a handy little program just for this purpose, which can be downloaded right from their website. Much simpler, right? Yeah, but we’ll need to create a custom keyboard layout for that to happen. And instead of displacing my [ key, how about I access it by tapping it twice. So, if I wanted to write ú, I could just type [ and u. I decided that I’d much rather just be able to hit my left bracket key (ya know, this thing: [ ) followed by the character I wanted to modify with an accent or tilde. In short, I just didn’t find this keyboard layout to be very intuitive. And the same goes for all the other keys it displaced. But… where did my semicolon key go? I don’t know, nor do I care to always remember where its new home is. Well, that’s fine, even though it’d take some getting used to. For example, it turned my semicolon ( ) key into an ñ. ![]() The Spanish keyboard that comes with Windows did some things I didn’t like. If you have an idea for how you’d like your custom key mappings to be, you can follow along with me to create your own custom keyboard. The following guide will take you through my process of creating a custom Spanish keyboard layout for my American keyboard. And while writing these characters was now way easier than before, I knew I could make a much more intuitive keyboard myself. The problem I ran into was that it made a lot of other (undesirable) changes to my keyboard, instead of just providing me with the new characters that I needed to use. ![]() In the first few episodes, it pitched itself as an emotional portrayal of bullying and depression, but those themes were bait. ![]() As we found out, that amounted to little more than a marketing gimmick. Part of what made this show so appealing was Miyamura's distinct appearance from generic high-school anime protagonists. I hate how the show frames his edgy appearance as a problem he must fix to have a good relationship. ![]() Such as to prevent Hori from getting teased, he cut his hair and stopped wearing his piercings because people looked down on him for them. Though the story frames his selflessness as something good, his dedication strips him of individuality and all intriguing aspects. Miyamura does anything he can to make Hori happy, even at his own expense. Yet in love stories, there's a problem if one of the partners is a little too perfect. She accepted him, which made his high school experience better. ![]() Though she never let their words bother her. Hori's classmates made fun of her for dating Miyamura since he's so uncool. In reality, kids would be lining up to be friends with someone like him-but we need anime high school drama logic! So let's say being Cool makes him Uncool. His first reason was, "She doesn't judge people based on looks." She embraced him even though society frowns up students with long hair, piercings, and tattoos. Most importantly, he had plausible reasons for falling in love with her. When his friend Toru asked him for permission to date Hori, he said 'it's her choice' because he's a decent person. He does everything she asks, and then some. Miyamura is a respectful guy he's not possessive of Hori. The story is aware it is annoying and it does not care. If your story makes fun of a genre cliche, then repeatedly uses it, you are not subverting anything. Characters joke about it because they reference how stereotypical his behavior is. Miyamura's most significant obstacle was his inability to say how he truly felt. With Hori's help, he overcomes his trauma, depression, and isolation (rather quickly). The solid presentation makes his melodramatic past seem more interesting than it is. His backstories are presented with washed-out colors, quiet background sound, and darkened backgrounds to highlight his depressed state of mind. About two minutes of each episode is saved for flashbacks to his dark past. Simply looking at him raises questions: Why does he have tattoos, nine piercings, and such long hair? All of these questions are answered in a very cut and dry manner. He spoke very little about his personal life and he stood out from every other generic character design. Miyamura was a cipher at first-Quiet and introverted, he does not like school, cliques, and social requirements. Their relationship felt genuine beginning as playful friends who got along despite their differences. Fake dating scenarios, love triangles, perpetually pissed off heroines, and a tidal wave of misunderstandings.Įven though the premise was simple, I liked seeing Hori and Miyamura together. Instead, they rushed through the story at a breakneck pace while repeating identical jokes and throwing in endless cliches. It had a simplistic trajectory: Make progress on Hori and Miyamura’s first love, tackle sexual awakenings, develop the side characters, and develop the themes of self-acceptance. While it is a bog-standard plot, Horimiya was my kind of show. In return, he does everything within his capability to make her happy. She encourages him to come out of his shell and find friends. Despite his edgy appearance, the girl does not judge the boy. She's popular at school still, she works hard to take care of her family, and she doesn't have time to socialize: The pair bond over their secretive lives. I should start by saying, I have never read the manga and this subpar anime didn't convince me I should.Ĭhances are you've heard this premise before: A male high school student with no friends meets a girl through a chance encounter. Though I was immediately drawn to this anime for its impressive technical qualities, they weren’t good enough to overlook the subpar writing.īeneath the superficial presentation, Horimiya is a computer-generated romantic comedy story that thinks in cliches: It merges tropes from the mediocre rom-com anime with the worst parts of sappy The original soundtrack is average, but it fits every scene. Both the opening and ending credits are slickly animated with the utmost care and talent. Every voice actor's suited their character, and their performances are convincing. On the surface, Horimiya is a finely polished anime-Glistening character art, bright lighting, realistic backgrounds, glittery visual effects. ![]()

When static, most levels are boring, but when it all kicks off you'll see the environment rip itself apart and bullets ding off metal furniture-it all adds to the action movie feel.
